Playgrounds & parks – 3/6 – Northern suburbs
Playground
Do they still have energy after the museums? Now it’s the time to lead them at an educational playground to enjoy some family time together. On the other hand, you can all rest together by having a picnic inside an overgrown park at Athens’s northern suburbs.
Northern suburbs’ playgrounds and parks

Traffic education park in Chalandri
Tinou 130, 15238, Chalandri. 13km from Syntagma square. It refers to over 9years old children. It has stands, canteen – refreshment room, toilets, green areas, benches, night lighting as well as parking spaces. In other words, children learn by playing with electric cars and bicycles to “read” the traffic signs and to respect the priority. In the same vein, they learn to pay attention to pedestrians, to park where allowed. But, most importantly to understand how a driver thinks to be careful when walking in town.
The road’s safety and behavior lessons are done in simulation conditions, with electric cars, which move on tracks with traffic signs. Therefore, through the traffic on these slopes, students are given a vivid depiction of the traffic environment.

Playground Kifisia
Square Hr. Polytechnic, 14564, Kifissia. 15,5km. It refers to disable kids up to 14 years old. The space includes special multi-instruments that are offered for creative play. These are the nest, the mill, the trill and the special crib seat for the disabled. Furthermore, in all there is a special access floor and security fence. Most important, the playground bears a sign with the suitability mark of the Ministry of Interior having instruments and facilities in accordance with European standards (EN). That is to say, that all instruments came from abroad.

Rematia Park
PC 15238, Vrilissia. 12km from Syntagma square. This playground has picturesque bridges and stone paths leading to the stream of Polidroso. Have a Greek frappe coffee and relax under the song of the frogs.

Grove of Sygrou Estate
182th Kifisias avenue, PC 15126, Marousi. 12,2km. This park has 700 acres of woodland and it’s the only natural forest in the whole Attica. In the other 270acres hosts the only orthodox neo-gothic church in Greece and the mansion of the Sygrou family designed by Ernesto Ziller. Moreover, the park also hosts two other architectural monuments that have been declared protected. Wave your hands at the many gardeners while you are running or bicycling. Most importantly, besides the playground, there are a football pitch, a basketball and a volleyball court. And of course, there are benches to relax or having a picnic.

Parnitha Pre-Olympic Sports Park
350 Rodon str, 14564, Kifisia. 15,2km. At this park, besides the playground, you will discover football fields, basketball and volleyball court. Furthermore, there are collisions, carousel, trampoline and many more games and activities away from the city noise.

Ktima Aristi
Meaning Aristi manor/estate. Plutarch & Keas, 15234, Chalandri. 9,5km. At the property of Aristi’s the kids will escape to nature by embracing a collective prosperity and a better quality of life. In fact, along with their parents, children can participate to many activities or observe festivals and nature’s laboratories. Additionaly, you can organize your kid’s party over there. In that way, he/she is going to learn about biological process of cultivation and farming.
Bonus: At your break time between laboratories you can relax at the refreshment area.
Note: It is an estate with fee.

“Once upon a time” park
Panagias Grigorousis, 19011 Avlona. 45km away from Syntagma square-44min by car. Actually, this park belongs to the category of experiential theme parks. The kids can have the experience of living in a village from another era. How? They learning to live in nature and using facilities like a watermill, a threshing floor and a press for grapes. Inside the park, there are also traditional houses and cafe, garden with aromatic plants, stables with animals (bulls, ponies, rabbits, chickens, goats, sheep, peacocks), but also a fenced area with deer. Most importantly, they are learning about recycling by composting or by rainwater collection’s process.
The playground- sports center called “The Greeks” has 5*5 with lawn, volleyball-handball-basketball court, two tennis courts, two tables of table tennis. In addition to these, there are a ballroom, as well as gym and martial arts hall. Furthermore, in the area of the theme park one can even practice to archery. Meanwhile, the playground has also trampoline and sliders next to the coffee place with the hot pizzas from the wooden oven.

24th El.Venizelou str., 15237, Filothei. 7,5km. The famous architect Dimitris Pikionis built this playground also. For that reason, the playground also hosts few exhibits by distinguished artists. A dilapidated boat, a sarakatsani hut and a bridge over a small lake are also part of the scenery where they can play.

Tatoi
23km-37min. Tatoi is a total area of 20,000 acres. Above all, on the estate is located the summer palace of the former Greek royal family. The remains actually. Equally important is the fact that inside the estate you can walk near the artificial lake Guitar. Furthermore, you can have a bike ride or having a picnic near the swings. After that, you can wander around just to see the old stables or riding your horse in the historical core of the estate.

Papagou park
31st Korytsas str, 15669, Papagou. 6,7km. The playground includes modern equipment, picnic area, sports area [track and field] and a tennis court with stands. Additinonally, there is an especially designed area for dog recreation. Moreover, you will see fountains, seating areas, modern lighting and paved walkways for walkers. Meanwhile, the park has few small lakes, waterfalls near the Verde restaurant and a summer cinema.

Neo Psychiko Ecological Park
18th Makrigianni str, 15451, Neo Psychiko. 5,2km. The playground called Labyrinth has also a railway train that your kids will love it. Finally, during their stroll, you can occupy yourselves with a lot of chess or just hanging to the kiosks.

Metallinos playground
55th Al.Papanastasiou, 15452,Psychiko. 6,4km. The playground of Manthos Metallinou, next to the Moraitis School, is large and beautiful. In fact, it has swings, slides, seesaws for all ages and shared buckets in the 2 pits. Moreover, it has a small round track for bicycles and skates. Meanwhile, under the trees you will find wooden tables to relax and enjoy your coffee.

Macedonia playground
35th Louki Akrita str, 15237, Filothei. 8km. Let the kids play a free creative game at the open space. Subsequently, from toddlers to adolescents, they will all enjoy the natural materials wooden toys.
