Continuing our wandering to find the perfect souvenirs for your beloved ones. For those with sweet tooth, below you will find many choices to squeeze in your luggage.

But, why not, I’ll say.
Starting with everyones favourite sweet: chocolate.

Chocolate
Many companies are grown cocoa beans from the Theobroma Cacao trees. Meaning in Greek the ‘food of Gods’, as the Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus named it. There are many Greek companies which they proceed all the way to the final product of a chocolate bar. Either way their chocolates are always deliciously fine. Wether try Astir company and gobble an egg-shaped/bunny large chocolate on Easter. Or ION which founded in 1930 for black chocolate and Hatziyiannakis to munch few wedding round stuffed dragees candies. Even taste more smaller companies like Alexandros Hand Made Organic, Lavdas, Oscar, Bolero, Jotis, Bingo etc.. Try chocolate bars, waffles with chocolate, chocolate in a stick, cereals with chocolate, candies and many-many more.
Your kids and nephews-nieces or your children’s friends will be amazed with such a gift. Did you leave someone off your list by accident? A fancy box of chocolates is always a great gift.

Mastiha
Do you want a present for kids? Then try all the sweet products from the mastic-mastiha trees of Chios island. In other words, they are so unique, because there are nowhere else in the whole world. The ‘tears of Chios’ are a flowery aroma chewing gum. Hipovrixio (=submarine) is a chewy – gooey dessert. Put it in a spoon and sink it in a glass of cold water. And then…lick it to refresh yourselves at summer. In addition, you can taste Greek loukoumi with mastic flavor or rose or bergamot or pistachio. Above all, Hippocrates (the father of medicine) was using Chios mastiha to clean teeth. Also, he was using it as medicine for the cold and to aid the stomach’s digestion. Most importantly, European Union protects mastiha as product with Designation of Origin.
In other words, there is no better gift for your beloved ones. You will find all the sweet mastic products at the shops around Monastiraki square. Along with the similar spirit mastiha liqueur and the cosmetics / perfume, supplements and dietary elements.

Honey syrup
Honey is really nutrient cause its rich in anti-oxidants. In addition, honey helps reducing cholesterol and triglycerides. Moreover, it has the capacity to be anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Most importantly: raw honey is an immune booster and has anti-cancer powers. We use this bee extract-distillate almost every day in our tea or in confectionery. It has many tastes that comes up from its production. From orange, thyme, oak, fir, heather, apple-tree and cherry-tree, chestnut, pine and many-many flowesrs. Even though it has more calories than sugar, it is more useful for our organism. It has 60calories per table spoon. It replaces sugar in sweets like baklava, loukoumades and Christmas’s melomakarona. Although, it has also application in cosmetics. The medical grade honey produces nourishing facial cremes, wound cremes or crème for melting the belly fat etc..
To sum up, it is a really nice gift for your wife, daughter, mother, lady-friend etc.. Fact: Honey is the only food in the world that never spoils. However, it appears crystallization, which we can correct it with double-boiling/ben-marie. Personally, I am putting the jar into the microwave and … done.

Traditional sweets
Do you have a sweet tooth? Then try some of Greece’s mouthwatering desserts. Try loukoumades (sweet doughnuts) splashed in honey or with nut spread. Also, taste the Christmas fasting’s diamond-shaped baklava, which has filo and almonds with cinnamon-honey syrup to its real version. You can also eat Christmas’s buttered kourambiedes and melomakarona. Firstly, kourabies which is a shortbread with almonds and lots of confectioners’ sugar. Secondly, melomakarono which is a walnut cookie dipped in honey. Moreover, you can choose loukoumi, which is a gel confection from starch and sugar with many tastes like mastic, rose, bergamot, pistachio, orange etc.. The chewy shiny mantolato will amaze your pallet. It’s a nougat with honey, many nuts and beaten egg whites. In the same vein, there is pasteli, which is a sesame seed bar tied with honey.
This is a gift for everyone. Put at your suitcase few boxes and you will make everyone happy. Tip: There are many grocery stores that they dispose boxes of these confections. I propose to choose the even more fresh ones from the candy-confectionery store/patisserie.

Spoon desserts
Last but not least, do not forget the spoon sweets. A really great gift, especially for ladies in small heart-shaped jars or in a column-shaped jar. We offer to our guests a teaspoon full of these preserved in sugar fruits along with cold water. Do not be frightened by the sugar. There are really healthy choice and they do not have so many calories. Try figs, cherry, grapes, watermelon peel, rose petals, carrot, orange, oyster mushroom, cumquat, sour cherry, berries, quince, bergamot, ginger-lavender etc..
