Prague at the Czech Republic

So, Prague. This year’s (after covid-19 quarantine) my first trip abroad. On the advice about Greece you can see my other this year’s trips close to Athens in Kymi, Tyros, Skala, Poros and Xylokastro. Prague is called the ‘golden city’ of Bohemia from UNESCO and it is built at the Vltava river. Another name that has is the “City of a Hundred Spires”. And indeed have sooo many of them. If you are enjoying history and museums, this is the city to see more of these. Prague at the Czech Republic has interesting architecture with many differentiations. From baroque, renaissance, art nouveau, cubism and many more, Prague will fascinate you. I did.

But, Prague at the Czech Republic is not only history and architecture. It is also beer. Lots and lots of it. And they are all so tasty.

And as you already saw to my pictures on Instagram it was a funny trip with all this beer and VR games and beer baths etc.. I hope you will like it too, when you will visit. And since, some of you asked me to put more photos here among articles, behold. I put more of them below.

Prague Accommodation ¼

Deminka palace was my base in Prague at the Czech Republic. This historic residence was very convenient to me, because it was behind the National Museum. Hence, it was really close to Wenceslas square with all this fun modern shops. But also, close to all these historical and cultural attractions. Everything was within walking distance.

The room was very spacious and the bathroom too. It is really hard to find a spacious bathroom, but they have it. Big problem constitutes the shower, which is only from above in a small space. So, you have to wash your hair every time, even if you do not want and you only need a shower.

 The room has a wood carving heavy old-times door with gold ‘drawings’ and matching wallpaper. You have the feeling that you are entering to a traditional old castle of another era. Moreover, the personnel were polite and extremely discreet. But, every morning at 7:30 starts the hustle and bustle of the city and banging of doors. Also, soon starts the maid’s wandering around the corridors. Consequently, you will awake. But, the hotel it is definitely good value for money.

 

Prague bars & coffee places 2/4

Staroprazska galerie

I am so pleased I stumbled across this place, called Staroprazska. That is to say, a nice cozy picturesque coffee place under the arch to rest yourselves with a variety of hot beverages to warm you up in a cold day. Do try the mulled red wine and hot bombardino egg nog fulled of alcohol.

Bonus: It is inside the Havelske historic urban market with local products. Over there you can buy forest red fruits, their traditional flat waffles and many memorabilia for your beloved ones.

Sweet candy

 In every corner of this Prague at the Czech Republic, you will find a sweet corner with many-many-many candies-marshmallows-chocolates etc.. I have a sweet tooth you know, so I had to try them. Har…har…

In addition to that you will meet places with chimney cakes filled with ice cream.

Au Gourmant

On the other hand, there is this au gourmand French patisserie place with so many choices. All sweets were so fluffy and fresh with so many flavorful tastes.

Cili bar

I didn’t try many bars in Prague at the Czech Republic, but I am so happy that I tried Cili bar. If you like a cocktail with a twist, this must be your choice. Additionally, if you like hot spicy peppers inside your cocktail, this must be your choice. It is a small space with extremely loud music. However, you can overcome this noise, since the cocktails are so delicious. It is inside the tourist center, but definitely not a tourist one. Just took a turn to your walk’ it is not that difficult to find it.

Prague Eateries ¾    

U Fleku

Firstly, I am gonna to introduce you to the must-go eatery. U Fleku in Prague at the Czech Republic is a little bit, let’s say touristic. However, it is the oldest brewery-pivovar in Prague, located over there since 1499. Hence, you have-to-go and meet them. Do remember to try their specialty of pork knuckle and the beef with the bread dumplings. Their system: As soon as you are sitting, they will bring you their own black beer and aperitif shots. As soon as you are consuming the beer, they will keep on coming new filled glasses. You have to stop them if you do not want any more.

Important notice: Remember that you are not in Greece, where the shopkeeper usually will bring you shots as a treat, after dinner. At U Fleku you have to pay for the aperitif shots.

Bonus: The music from the accordion.

Kantyna

If you want high quality meat, then this is the appropriate place for you. Entering the store, you will meet the butcher’s shop. Over there you can choose the meat of your preference to prepare it for you at this very moment. Otherwise, you can move forward to the 2^nd room where there is a variety of already prepared meals to choose. All meats were mouth-watering. Even their dessert was truly tasty. However, they only had blonde beer. Continuing, at the 3^rd room of the Kantyna is the main hall with full of tables. I would really like wanted to go one more time for the scrumptious meats, but I really hate so much noise. It has really fuss over there.

PS: I loved their cucumber salad also.

Three Golden Stars (U Tří Zlatých hvězd) 

This 1400’s house restored in 1813 and it is preserved until today at this form. I loved the murals on the walls from the book ‘Atalanta Fugiens’, as much as I loved the goulash soup inside bread and their black beer. So, comfort and warm. Certainly, the marble Mouth of Truth of pagan god Triton is an architectural addition to the building. Just remember the scene from Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn.

Sova

In my opinion, this is the yummiest place among the restaurants I ate in Prague at the Czech Republic. The quality of the products is top-notch and the flavor is extraordinary. Both main dishes (veal cheeks & pork belly) were extremely delicious. The decoration of Sova with the stoned walls and the heavy carpets makes you feel so cozy and welcome … and comfortable … and warm. This is an exceptional atmosphere to relax and enjoy this unrealistically nice meal. This was an interesting, yet amazing dinner experience. Most important of all, the personnel were so amazingly polite and friendly. Moreover, they even treated us at the end with homemade black currant shots.

PS: My yummy dark beer ice cream had a twist, since it was made out of molecular gastronomy.

Deer

I am so pleased that I left Prague after I managed to try their dishes. Even though the restaurant is inside the Old Town square, it is not touristic at all. So, you definitely must visit this amazing deer restaurant. The personnel were fantastic and gentle. And they even cared about our allergies and took care of the menu. Furthermore, all dishes were so-so-sooo tasty. Our main dishes in particular, the deer saddle and fallow deer osso buco, were super delicious.

Pizza & Gyros

Do you want something ‘safe’ or something from our Greece? Then you can choose to eat to one of the many Italian places with pizza or one of the Greek gyros-souvlaki places at the Old Town square. I singled out my favorite pizza as the wok to walk for their crunchy crust and opa for gyros at Zelezna street.

 

Prague Activities 4/4

National museum

Firstly, the Narodni museum is the most magnificent majestic building (the old one) of Prague at the Czech Republic. The building itself worth to pay a visit. It has so nice architecture and gold decorations.

In addition to that, it has the best view of Wenceslas square. Inside, there are 4000 minerals, war memorabilia, ancestors’ busts, Olympic games in Tokyo, evolution of sea and jungle animals.

PS: I was a little bit disappointed when i realized that most of the animals were plastic replicas and not real mummified animals.

Astronomical clock

The clock is basically a magnificent medieval clock in the old town hall of Prague at the Czech Republic (a replica of the old clock after building the new after the WWII). Every hour the clock beats and the statues of the 12 Apostles appearing. Most important, it is definitely worth a visit for the beautiful architecture. Just remember to go upstairs to enjoy the magnificent peripheral view of the city.

PS: We went at 18:00 (because it says it is open until 20:00). After we paid the entrance fee, they informed us that we can not go to the underground cemetery. So, remember that.

Charles bridge

Charles bridge is a beautiful stone bridge that connects the Old and New Town of Prague. It has many scattered stone statues. Among them you will find artists with their paintings to purchase and many entertainers with their traditional instruments. It is always crowded, but it is something you should do. Wear your face mask and go for a walk. Moreover, you have an unobstructed view of Vltava river and the castle. My advice? You have to go day and night to see the illuminated city.

Saint Vito cathedral and castle

The cathedral of Saint Vito is a majestic architecture’s temple inside the castle of Prague. It’s the must-visit-monument of the city. Notice: Be careful with the itinerary, since the last allowed entrance is at 16:40 and not a minute later.

In the same vein, the castle is another monument you should visit. The castle has a wonderful view of the city from the external wall. Inside, all the buildings are magnificently majestic and the change of guards is spectacular. You can walk around the stoned picturesque roads or seat for a coffee or buy your memorabilia. There are many small shops with wooden carved shapes or books or magnets etc..

 Do not forget to walk around the gardens where you can see many flowers and peacocks among them and to “educate” some owls.

Notice that at the entrance the police will scan you and your bags, like they are doing at the airport.

PS: You can take the tram 22 to go the castle, because the road is uphill-steep enough.

Beer spa

If you want to live a genuinely Czech experience, then a beer spa is required. Hypothetically, the beer spa has health benefits for the body. In addition, your skin will glow. Mine did after that. Hihiii!

Basically, they are putting hops and yeast in water to simulate the beer. At the end, it is inevitable that you will enjoy it. Especially if you eat the wonderful small Czech sausages together with your beer, inside the bath.

Sex machines museum

Fooling around at the Old town square, you will meet this notably museum.

Highly educational about the evolution of the particular profession of prostitute in each country. I didn’t know about the ‘akoloutha me’ shoes in the ancient Greece. Meaning? Around 1800s, Greek prostitutes advertised themselves in that way. In other words, they wrote with nails “follow me” at the bottom of their shoes and this would be imprinted into the sand. In order to follow them, of course.

Most importantly, you can see the evolution of the machines within all these unexpected things. Humanity has imagination about fulfilling the sexual need. Some of them are scary.!

VR

Well, this was my first contact with virtual reality. We chose the Egyptian adventure, because we thought it is not fair to choose the Greek adventure, since we are familiar with ancient Greek gods. Subsequently, we had to look for the Lost Pyramid of Nebka in the Sinai Peninsula, since Sir Beldon Frye disappeared in February 1928. Our expedition was to find what he and his colleagues were looking for.

Basically, you have to escape pyramid through big puzzles, climbing at large statues of Egyptian Gods and solve many more scenarios.

Ohh, I was exhausted climbing. Fffewww… I was a little bit slow, since it was my first experience with VR glasses and headphones and etc, but at the end we figure it out. Furthermore, this was my workout for the next few days. Har…har…

Worth a visit, if you are in a company retreat and you need bonding. Or if you are a big group and it is a rainy day outside. It is also good for families with kids and toddlers.

 

Conclusion

To sum up, you are not going to get bored if you choose Prague at the Czech Republic for your trip. Just drink a beer and enjoy the fine architecture.
